LASIK Technology
We choose VISX
Amazing technological breakthroughs have happened in LASER vision correction over the last 10-15 years. The surgeons at EyeHealth Northwest have been dedicated to using the most advanced technology that has been determined safe and effective by legitimate ophthalmology associations. Please feel free to read more below about the technology used at EyeHealth Northwest.
Why our Doctors choose VISX STAR S4™, with Active Trak™ and Variable Spot Scanning (VSS™).
The EyeHealth Surgeons use the VISX STAR S4™ with Active Trak™. Specifically designed for Ophthalmic procedures, this device helps to track the eye in 3 dimensions, unlike other trackers. Active Trak™ detects and compensates for eye movements by guiding the laser beam to keep centered over the treatment area. Over two million people have benefited from laser vision correction with the Visx® laser. We invite you to visit www.visx.com to learn more about the Visx® with Active Trak™.
EyeHealth has been helping people see more clearly since 1954. Our Laser Vision Surgeons have been performing refractive surgery for over nine years.

VISX Wavefront & Wavescan Technology – Advanced CustomVue individualized laser vision correction.
Advanced CustomVue LASIK is a premium technology selected for its precision, comfort and safety. Advanced CustomVue technology includes the entire scope of FDA-approved VISX technologies, including the Wavescan WavePrint Map, Wavefront treatment correction, 3D ActiveTrak, and Variable Spot Scanning. FDA approved, CustomVue laser vision correction has set a new standard for vision correction.
Wavefront Treatment & Wavescan Diagnostics
Using Wavescan based digital technology (originally developed for astrophysics to reduce atmospheric distortions when viewing distance objects in space through high-powered telescopes) eye surgeons can now identify and measure imperfections in your eyes 25 times more precisely than with standard methods used for contacts, glasses and conventional LASIK or PRK. This information is transferred to the laser by a floppy disk and directs the laser to correct the unique imperfections, providing a new level of precision and accuracy never before possible.
Overall, CustomVue is a diagnostic tool to develop your individual Wavefront treatment correction. Just like your fingerprint is a unique identifier, or your DNA is unique to you, CustomVue provides a detailed diagram of your vision. Because your vision is unique, your EyeHealth surgeon can personalize your vision correction to each eye.
3D Active Trak:
Our VISX Star 4 Excimer Laser monitors your eye movement during the procedure. An exclusive feature of the VISX Star S4, 3D active track allows for pinpoint accuracy by automatically tracking the tiny motions of your eye during the procedure. Yielding increased safety, Active Trak is an advanced level of surgery precision previously unavailable.
Variable Spot Scanning (VSS) is an exclusive VISX laser technology that allows for a larger treatment are to best accommodate your visual needs. This enables your EyeHealth surgeon greater flexibility in developing a more personalized laser vision procedure, when pupil size may be a consideration.
Just like a fingerprint, each person's visual imperfections (optical aberrations) are 100% unique to each of their eyes.
Iris Registration:
An exciting innovation in LASIK technology, Iris Registration (IR) is exclusive to the VISX laser. A technology like no other, Iris Registration is a mapping of your iris. This map is unique to each eye as microscopic characteristics and pattern are mapped for use by the laser in the alignment of your custom correction.
Iris Registration (IR) is used in concert with the Active Trak & CustomVue Wavefront technologies to provide the highest level of accuracy and safety possible in advanced LASIK correction.
Oculus Pentacam - Topography
The Oculus Pentacam is the most advanced technology in the art and medicine of cornea topography. Like a topographical map, each cornea is measured for elevation. However, the Oculus Pentacam produces additional imaging and calculation for the cornea curve, contour and tissue density at the microscopic level.
Exceeding the capability of previous topography technology, including the ORBSCAN, as a diagnostic tool, the Oculus Pentacam provides EyeHealth surgeons a cornea mapping and tissue diagnostics of with an accuracy that was previously not available.
Pre-Operative diagnostics
Oculus Pentacam is used throughout the process of laser vision correction candidacy & surgery planning. This sophisticated form of cornea mapping enables the surgeons at EyeHealth Northwest to more accurately identify laser eye surgery candidates.
Pentacam topography mapping illustrates the unique corneal tissue characteristics evaluated for determination of LASIK candidacy and surgical readiness.
For example, during pre-operative evaluations, the Pentacam topography is used to monitor and track changes occurring in the cornea when a patient stops wearing contacts. The Pentacam topography illustrates the difference of change or stability of a cornea after contacts have been removed for surgery.
Intralase & Microkeratome LASIK
Medicine or marketing?
As physicians and surgeons providing healthcare and surgery we find that corporate messaging and commercial production of LASIK eye surgery is misleading consumers and misinforming patients. One of the best examples is the myth of "safer" Lasik using "all laser" or "bladeless" techniques.
Safety & Technology
What are you waiting for? There has never been a better time to have LASIK.
EyeHealth Safety First
In the hands of our experienced and skilled EyeHealth surgeons, laser vision correction is a remarkably safe and successful vision correction procedure. From your pre-operative exam with your surgeon, your Advanced Custom EyeHealth LASIK correction, followed by your post-operative care visits with your surgeon. Every level of care and safety is taken with your vision.
Partners in technology
EyeHealth Northwest and the technologically Advanced CustomVue procedure is your doorway to freedom from glasses and contact lenses. The reason is simple—until now, there has never been a laser vision correction procedure that offers the precision and accuracy of the Advanced CustomVue procedure. Since 2003, the Advanced CustomVue procedure has earned FDA approval to treat the broadest range of vision imperfections with technical safeguards, like Iris Registration, and 3D Active Trak alignment.
